Jones Sports' preconstruction services played a central role in the Little Caesars Arena project. Prior to putting the contract out for bid, we were brought in to assist in developing the project specifications and budget for this home of the Detroit Pistons. Jones Sports worked with the design team and general contractor to create a conceptual design package and ultimately won the design/build contract.
This complex project involved designing, fabricating, and installing interior and exterior branding and signage as well as specialty design elements. The biggest challenge was to create a graphic of the Little Caesars pizza logo figure that would span the arena dome.
Jones Sports' preconstruction services were tapped to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the scope and budget of the project before the bid was awarded. By teaming up with the construction manager, we were able to develop project specifications and accurate budget numbers. That information was then used to engineer the signs, their supports, and their mounting methods. The preconstruction services process allowed us to build a realistic conceptual design package that was then used in the project bid and, ultimately, for project completion.
Jones Sports won the bid to complete all interior and exterior branding and signage and specialty design elements. This included over 1,000 custom signs, integrated lighting, outdoor digital video displays, and a signature marquee blade sign with a 20' x 20' vintage ghost neon head. We used a Trimble laser survey system to stencil the large cartoon graphic of the Little Caesars pizza logo figure atop the arena done. The final graphic spans thousands of square feet. This project reached the LEED Certification Level of Silver.
