This project began with Jones Sports providing preconstruction services to the fiserv.forum arena in Milwaukee, WI. We were ultimately awarded the design/build for the project based on our conceptual design package. As part of the exterior sign package, Jones Sports designed, fabricated, and installed the marque brand rooftop letters for the arena.
Our goal was to take conceptual designs and turn them into construction/engineered drawings for over 1,200 interior and exterior signs, graphics, and specialty elements, including the rooftop letters. The rooftop letters presented an additional challenge. The letters were large, ranging in size from 36 to 51 feet in height. They needed to be fabricated to withstand wind and installed with a slight grade to allow snow to slide off.
This was a team effort. Jones Sports worked closely with the project designers and general contractor to ensure design specifications met the desired objectives. Over 100 people logged a combined total of more than 6,000 hours on this project.
The fiserv.forum rooftop letters cover 3,682 square feet. 74 separate power supplies illuminate 5,502 LED modules within the orange rooftop logo letters. Each letter had to be lifted onto the roof using a special lifting jig and a 550-ton crane. 156 individually placed outriggers were used to mount the letters to the roof.
The project was a slam-dunk. It was completed ahead of schedule and on budget due to the efforts of the Jones Sports team. Management, pre-construction management, operations, installation, and project management team members worked together seamlessly to keep the project on track and moving forward. This arena project was been highlighted on national sports media and on national news during the 2020 election campaign. The fiserv.forum project reached the LEED Certification Level of Silver.
